About the National Conference

The Social Mission Alliance Conference is an interprofessional forum that aims to advance health equity and social justice through health professions education.

Since our inaugural conference in Tulsa, Oklahoma in 2012, we’ve organized seven national conferences across the United States, partnering with multiple health professional institutions. Our attendees visit from around the world and represent a wide spectrum across the healthcare industry, including medicine, dentistry, nursing, social work, policy making, and administration, with academic backgrounds ranging from undergraduate to doctoral levels. Learn about our past conferences.

The Social Mission Alliance has catalyzed new initiatives, funding opportunities, publications, and enhanced multidisciplinary collaboration, each conference building on the last. Bringing together individuals from various disciplines, backgrounds, and regions sparks innovation and drives progress. This conference provides a time for attendees to collaborate and engage on top issues facing our society, including social determinants of health, centering community expertise, reducing inequities, workforce diversity, and value-based health care.

The Power of our National Conference

Each conference highlights the transformative work being done by those dedicated to social mission, showcasing programs, models, and people reshaping health professions education. By providing a forum for convening, the Social Mission Alliance Conference will enable participants to:

  1. Accelerate the work already underway to grow a diverse health professions workforce.
  2. Champion the learners, faculty, and administrators who are leading the way in advancing equity at their institutions.
  3. Harness the knowledge of hundreds of colleagues sharing anti-racist, justice-oriented tools, resources, educational competencies, and experiences in preparing learners to advance health equity.
  4. Enhance service-learning programs and leverage community benefit dollars to build community power and prioritize community involvement in decision-making.
  5. Deepen current community relationships by building a foundation of trust, reciprocity, and genuine partnership.
